Thanks to Senator Murkowski's support, Alaska Long Trail projects in Chugach National Forest and the Denali Borough have received $20.7M in federal appropriations since 2022
2027
Denali Borough: $272,910 was appropriated for pedestrian bridges and trails near Denali National Park and the Nenana Trail systems, and $4,373,816 for a separated path from Healy to Antler Ridge.
Matanuska-Susitna Borough: $660,000 was appropriated for separated pathways leading from Palmer to Hatcher Pass.
2026
Chugach National Forest: $1.5 million for the Grant Creek Bridge and the Iditarod National Historical/Moose Pass Trails extension, and an additional $1 million for Iditarod National Historic Trail improvements.
Denali Park: $272,910 to build the Denali Park Pedestrian Bridge, and $181,940 for the Healy to Antler Ridge Trail Separated Pathway.
Mirror Lake: $545,840 to connect the Glenn Highway Separated Pathway from Ski Road to Settlers Drive.
2025
Chugach National Forest: $1.5 million for the construction of the Grant Creek Bridge and INHT trail construction near Moose Pass.
2024
Denali Borough: $640K for design and construction of a section of pedestrian pathways along the Parks Highway corridor in the Borough to provide safe pedestrian access to Denali National Park and Preserve and the Denali frontcountry.
2023
Chugach National Forest: $2.348 million to construct and improve recreational trails and access on the Iditarod National Historic Trail. Construction of two bridges and several trail segments between Seward and Turnagain Pass.
Denali Borough: $2.18 million for design and engineering of a section of pedestrian pathways along the Parks Highway corridor in the Denali Borough to provide safe pedestrian access to Denali National Park and Preserve and Denali frontcountry.
BLM: $1 million to complete a National Scenic Trail feasibility study to connect Seward and Fairbanks via a trail system.
2022
Chugach National Forest: $5.77 million for maintenance, construction, and restoration on portions of the Iditarod Trail. This funding enabled the construction of four bridges and several trail segments in the Turnagain Pass area.
