About the event

The day will begin at the Prospect Heights trailhead in Chugach State Park.  Volunteers will hike from the trailhead to the worksite and begin tread, drainage, and brushing work approximately 1.3 miles into the hike. The main focus of the day is to route the erosive water drainage at mile 1.3 off the trail in a more direct manner. This will be done either by installing a culvert or creating a grade dip. The steep drop-in and climb-out-of the current drainage needs to be smoothed out to meet a less steep grade.

It is steep, uneven, and sometimes muddy terrain. From the parking lot to the end of the worksite, the hike is approximately 2 miles, so volunteers can expect to hike about 4 miles total.

This event is sponsored by Chugach Park Fund.

What to bring: Rain gear, sturdy work/hiking boots, snacks, water, sunscreen, long work pants, and work gloves and safety glasses if you have them (if you don't have gloves/safety glasses they will be provided for the day).

What NOT to bring: Alcohol, drugs, children, pets, and firearms.

Notes: This event is open to volunteers age 18 and up. Conditions could well be rainy and mud will likely be present on the trail. No experience is necessary, but volunteers should have a minimum ability to hike and work for 5-6 hours during potentially inclement conditions.
