About the event
Volunteers will meet at the South Fork Valley Trailhead at 8:45 am and hike approximately 2.5 miles to the beginning of the work site. This project is part of the larger South Fork Valley Trail restoration that one of the Alaska Trails pro crews is working on this summer. Volunteers will work on a 270’ reroute that will take a short section of fall-line trail and reroute it to a lower grade, allowing for long-term sustainability. Volunteers will use hand tools to cut new trail.
What to bring: Rain gear, sturdy work/hiking boots, snacks, water, sunscreen, long work pants, and work gloves and safety glasses if you have them (if you don't have gloves/safety glasses they will be provided for the day).
What NOT to bring: Alcohol, drugs, children, pets, and firearms.
Notes: Volunteers will hike between 5-6 miles total. This is a moderate to strenuous hike where you will be carrying tools as well. Volunteers must be able to hike in steep, uneven terrain and have a good attitude. Also, bear awareness is always important, especially at this location.
