About the event
We will be helping finish the last portion of the Little O’Malley Peak trail. We’re 97% there and just have a few hundred feet to go. Our paid crew will be out there the week before putting in sustainable steps. Volunteers will do a variety of tasks including light brushing, drainage work, trail fortification as well as assisting with trail structure building and clean-up. Volunteers will be using hand tools to do the construction. Volunteers who attend will receive a coupon for $5 off any food or drink at The Loft at Midnight Sun Brewing Co!
HIKING INFO (how long will the hike into the project site be, and what sort of terrain):
This is a long and strenuous hike to the top of the Little O’Malley Peak Trail and some of the work may include more hiking.
SCHEDULE FOR THE DAY OR WEEKEND:
Saturday, Sept 24th 2022
9:00AM – 4:00PM
Meet at the Glen Alps trailhead– lower parking area by 8:45AM, review safety documents and project overview, gather tools for the project. SAFETY will be the biggest concern with a busy trail and lots of trail users. Volunteers will be back to the trailhead by 4:00PM.
WHAT IT TAKES (any sort of previous experience or physical ability, age restrictions, etc):
The hike will be strenuous. Work may be strenuous at times and volunteers must come prepared with food and water for the day. We will take frequent breaks and have time for lunch. Volunteers MUST be prepared with appropriate attire (including sturdy footwear/ boots.) Please bring work gloves and eye protection but Alaska Trails will provide those if you do not have them.
WHAT TO WEAR:
Long Pants (you may stain them with dirt)
Long Sleeves
Sturdy Work Boots
WHAT TO BRING:
Food (lunch and snack)
Water bottles for a whole day on the trail
Work Gear:
o Work Gloves
o Rain Gear, Warm layers, bug spray, sunscreen
o Eye Protection (sunglasses)
o Backpack (lunch, food, water for the day)
Alaska Trails will provide hand tools:
- Hand tools, hardhats and other PPE
WHAT NOT TO BRING:
Dogs
Children

Volunteers will meet at the Glen Alps Trailhead of Chugach State Park. Please proceed past the Ranger house down the hill to the new parking area.
