Independence Mine State Historical Park

The goal of this project is to improve trail tread and drainage on the Gold Cord Lake Trail in Hatcher Pass State Park. Hiking is moderate with no more than 1.5 miles total hiked for the event.

About the event

Volunteers will meet at the Independence Mine State Historical Park parking lot Trailhead in Hatcher Pass State Park at 9:30am and will return at 3:30pm. Volunteers will be improving the trail tread and drainage on the Gold Cord Lake Trail.


What to bring: Rain gear, sturdy work/hiking boots, snacks, water, sunscreen, long work pants, and work gloves and safety glasses if you have them (if you don't have gloves/safety glasses they will be provided for the day). 


What NOT to bring: Alcohol, drugs, children, pets, and firearms.


Notes: After meeting at the Independence Mine State Historical Park parking lot, volunteers will walk to the Gold Cord Lake trailhead together. Hiking will begin at the trailhead and at the most will involve 1.5 miles of moderate hiking. No experience is necessary, but volunteers should have a minimum ability to hike and work for 6 hours during potentially inclement conditions. This event…
