Flattop Sunnyside Trailhead

Celebrate National Public Lands Day by brushing and improving trail tread and drainage on the Flattop Sunnyside Trail in Chugach State Park. Hiking is moderate with no more than 3.5 miles total hiked for the day. This event is in partnership with the Sierra Club Alaska Chapter.

About the event

Volunteers will meet at the Flattop Sunnyside Trailhead at 8:00am and return to the trailhead at 2:00pm. Volunteers will be brushing the trail using handsaws and loppers and improving trail tread and drainage. Any volunteers without an Alaska State Parks annual parking pass will be provided a pass so they do not have to pay for parking while volunteering. Please note that Canyon Road is unmaintained with large potholes, and parking is limited. 


What to bring: Rain gear, sturdy work/hiking boots, snacks, water, sunscreen, long work pants, and work gloves and safety glasses if you have them (if you don't have gloves/safety glasses they will be provided for the day). 


What NOT to bring: Alcohol, drugs, children, pets, and firearms.


Notes: Hiking will begin at the Flattop Sunnyside Trailhead and at the most will involve 3.5 miles of hiking on a moderate grade. No experience is necessary, but volunteers should…
