About the event
Volunteers will block eroding social trails; clean and maintain drainage; remove brush from trails. Project precedes the Chugach Park 50-51 Fest, a free, all-day music festival celebrating the 50th and 51st anniversary of Chugach State Park (see http://arcticvalley.org/anchorage-ski-club/calendar/concerts/ for more info). Meet at 50-51 Fest ‘Day Parking’ area on main Arctic Valley Road at Marston Trailhead (look for signs). 30 minute hike into work area. Work will take place along South Fork Overlook Trail (aka Saddle Trail). Entire area is a treeless, tundra covered mountain valley, and can be windy (although we’ll be well below the pass and ridgelines).
SCHEDULE FOR THE DAY:
0800 Meet at trailhead; orientation / safety briefing
0815 Hike to work area; further onsite orientation, do trail work
1130 Finish up, return to trailhead / festival site
1200 Â Festival gates open; music, food trucks, Chugach Park appreciation!
What to bring: Rain gear, sturdy work/hiking boots, snacks, water, sunscreen, long work pants, and work gloves and safety glasses if you have them (if you don't have gloves/safety glasses they will be provided for the day).
What NOT to bring: Alcohol, drugs, pets and firearms.
Notes: This event is open to volunteers of all ages. Volunteers will hike 30 minutes into the worksite. Volunteers must be able to lift and carry small rocks in addition to using shovels/digging tools.
