About the event

The purpose of this project is to perform basic trail maintenance along a section of the Iditarod National Historic Trail starting and working north from the Center Ridge parking lot. Along with cleaning drains/lateral drains and brushing, there are two large mud-holes to try and fix up.

Volunteers will meet at the Center Ridge parking lot at milepost 68.5 on the Seward Highway at 9 am. The work will be consistent along the trail, and volunteers will move along as a group, doing work as they go. The farthest volunteers will go is three miles one way, so six miles total. The trail is in decent shape but there are roots and rocks along with ups and downs in the trail.

What to bring: Rain gear, sturdy work/hiking boots, snacks, water, sunscreen, long work pants, and work gloves and safety glasses if you have them (if you don't have gloves/safety glasses they will be provided for the day).

What NOT to bring: Alcohol, drugs, children, pets, and firearms.

Notes: Conditions could well be rainy and mud will likely be present on the trail. No experience is necessary, but volunteers should have a minimum ability to hike and work for 5-6 hours during potentially inclement conditions.
