Little O'Malley Peak Trail with Pioneers for Women
Time & Location
About the Event
This event is a collaboration between Alaska Trails and Pioneers for Women. Pioneers for Women is an Anchorage-based non-profit whose mission is to create a supportive community where women of all skill levels are mentored, educated and empowered to get outside with boldness and courage. This is a woman-focused event that intends an inclusive definition of women. We are welcoming and respectful of women, including trans women and those who are nonbinary, gender non-conforming, and anyone who identifies as a woman in a way that is significant to them. Volunteers will be working to complete the second half of the Little O’Malley Peak Trail in Chugach State Park. Alaska Trails is excited to be working with the Chugach Park Fund to build a sustainable trail to replace the current trail that suffers much erosion. Similar to other successful re-routes like the Sunnyside of Flattop, this new section will replace and realign an old, unsustainable stretch of trail. Volunteers will perform a variety of trail building duties during their work day and will have a significant impact on this effort.
What to bring: Rain gear, sturdy work/hiking boots, snacks, water, sunscreen, long work pants, and work gloves and safety glasses if you have them (if you don't have gloves/safety glasses they will be provided for the day).
What NOT to bring: Alcohol, drugs, pets and firearms.
Notes: This event is woman-focused. Volunteers must be 18 or older. Volunteers will hike 4 miles roundtrip to the worksite. This is a moderate hike where you will be carrying tools as well. Volunteers must be physically fit enough to complete this hike and work a full day.
