This is trail and activity guide includes many hiking and water trails. It also allows users to browse by other activities. Many of the trail pages don't have much information, but there may be something of use here for someone who wants to dig.Version 5.0 has a "layers" feature that includes trails and other outdoors-oriented trips from three organizations: Trimble Outdoors, Wikiloc, and EveryTrail. The Trimble information is the best. It comes from the well-regarded Backpacker magazine and is mainly for hikers and backpackers. Wikiloc is Spain-based and some of the descriptions are in Spanish. Both Wikiloc and EveryTrail are user-contributed trails. Some are fairly decent trail guides, but some are just trips that someone took and posted. View the layers by starting Google Earth (make sure you have version 5.0 or higher), go to "Layers" in the sidebar on the left; expand the "Gallery" folder under "Primary Database;" and click on Trimble Outdoors Trips, Wikiloc, or EveryTrail. You can select them one at a time or all at once. Version 5.2 allows users to view elevation, speed, and other data as a graph directly in Google Earth. See this blog post: http://google-latlong.blogspot.com/2010/06/announcing-google-earth-52.html

The best way to find out park information about trails is to go to each park website, then go to Plant Your Visit > Things to Do. From there you can choose a specific activity. Otherwise, finding information online about the trails is not all that easy, but it is there. Each park site usually has a listing for "Maps" under "Directions." For the most part, these are large overview maps that give you a general idea of what official trails are out there. Another method is to go to the website listed above, click on the park, then type trails into the search engine. You can also purchase National Geographic "Trails Illustrated" maps (see Print Resources). Many but not all Alaska national parks are covered in these. The National Park Service has a webpage that describes trails in national parks that are accessible to people with disabilities. People looking for trails can use a variety of search tools, including a keyword search, area search, and trail parameter (length, elevation gain, etc) search.
