Alaska Trail Stewards will be celebrating National Public Lands Day by working out on the Flattop trail from 9:00a to 4:00p.
Chugach State Park is in the process of building a sustainable trail on the Canyon Rd. side of Flattop. This side of the mountain has only had a maze of social trails for decades. Those trails are becoming HEAVILY eroded, causing serious damage and dramatic landscape change on the mountain. We’ll be building a new alignment that incorporates sustainable design techniques (switchbacks). The State Park trail crew is going to be out building the trail all summer and we are inviting volunteers up to help boost the construction all the way to the top. All the work will be done with hand tools (Pulaskis and shovels). This is an opportunity to be a part of sustainable solutions to major issues firsthand.
What it takes:
No trail work experience necessary! Must be in physically good shape with the ability to swing a tool all day and lift heavy loads (50lbs). You’ll be on your feet the entire time. This event is open to ages 16 and up only.
